Triumphant SpaceX Falcon 9 Launch Places 23 Starlink Satellites in Orbit Under Beneficial Weather Conditions
In a triumphant mission, SpaceX's Falcon 9 soared into the night sky from Cape Canaveral late Monday, carrying 23 Starlink satellites, following a weather-induced delay last week. The liftoff occurred precisely at 11:01 p.m. EST (0401 UTC), marking the 90th orbital launch for the company in 2023 and the 280th Falcon 9 launch to date.
Despite prior setbacks due to adverse weather conditions, Monday's launch saw a remarkable turnaround, benefitting from calmer winds and an improved weather outlook. The Falcon 9, tail number B1081 on its third flight, departed from pad 40 at Cape Canaveral, aiming for an orbit inclined 43 degrees to the Equator in a south-easterly direction.
The nine Merlin 1D engines powered the rocket for nearly two and a half minutes before the separation of the first and second stages. The initial stage continued its journey, set to make a controlled landing on the drone ship 'A Shortfall of Gravitas' stationed in the Atlantic Ocean, positioned east of the Bahamas.
Post-launch, SpaceX confirmed the successful deployment of all 23 satellites, reaffirming the mission's accomplishment and expanding their ever-growing Starlink constellation.
