Robber wanted in 25 cases killed in encounter with Ludhiana police:ASI injured
25 मामलों में वांछित लुटेरा लुधियाना पुलिस से मुठभेड़ में मारा गया; एएसआई घायल
Sukhdev Singh alias Vicky, accused in numerous robbery cases, met his demise in an encounter with the Ludhiana police in the Koom Kalan area on Machhiwara road. Identified as a member of a gun-wielding robbery gang, Sukhdev was implicated in at least 25 cases, stated Ludhiana Police Commissioner Kuldeep Singh Chahal.
The confrontation unfolded when a police team led by CIA Inspector Beant Juneja pursued Sukhdev, who was riding a two-wheeler. The situation escalated at Panjeta village where Sukhdev fired at the police, leading to an exchange of around 20 rounds of gunfire resulting in his demise. Unfortunately, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Daljeet Singh sustained a gunshot wound to his left thigh during the encounter.
CP Chahal emphasized the unmistakable message to criminals that opening fire on the police won't ensure escape. Notably, Inspector Beant Juneja was unharmed due to his bulletproof vest.
Three accomplices—Aryan Singh alias Raja from Gorakhpur, UP; Sunil Kumar; and Balwinder alias Bobby from Machhiwara—were apprehended during the operation. The gang's modus operandi involved armed robberies, which escalated to firing at victims in recent cases.
These crimes included incidents at a chemist shop, liquor vend, grocery store, money exchange shop, and a fuel-filling station in Ludhiana. Recoveries from the encounter site included a two-wheeler and a pistol.
ASI Daljeet Singh is currently receiving treatment at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) for his injury.
Before this encounter, Sukhdev and his associates had targeted a chemist and a money exchange facility, robbing them at gunpoint. The gang's criminal activities included looting a substantial amount of cash and goods from a shopkeeper and a customer.
The recent encounter is the second such incident by Ludhiana Police in the last fifteen days, underlining the tough stance against criminal activities involving firearms in the region.
