Indian ADRs performance in the US stock market over 5 years

American Depositary Receipts (ADRs) of major Indian companies have performed diversely in the US stock market, attracting the attention of investors looking for international opportunities.

  HDFC Bank Limited (HDB):

Over the past five years, HDFC Bank Limited has displayed a growth trajectory of 31.63%, indicating stable albeit moderate growth. However, its recent one-year performance saw a slight decline of -4.09%. Despite a promising growth of 14.35% in the last month, the stock witnessed a marginal decline of -1.15% as of December 15. At the current price of USD 66.08, HDFC's performance over the last five years has fallen short of doubling investors' money.

  ICICI Bank Limited (IBN):

Contrary to the trend of HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank's ADR displayed an impressive five-year growth of 147.23%, indicating strong long-term performance. Compared to the last year, it recorded a substantial rise of 12.15%, while the recent month-long rally saw a rise of 10.29%. Although recent day performance remained flat at -0.55%, the stock's stability seems to be in line with investors' expectations, currently trading at USD 24.55.

  Infosys Limited (INFY):

Infosys Limited displayed a commendable five-year growth rate of 105.16%, indicating long-term progress. It increased by 5.30% in the last year and increased by 8.11% in the last month. However, its performance as of December 15 stood at 1.69%, underscoring its continued but more moderate growth path.

  Wipro Limited (WIT):

Wipro Limited's ADR showed a growth of 42.70% over five years, which, while positive, appeared less robust than its peers. Over the past year, it has increased by 15.25%, and the recent month-long rally saw it rise by 12.82%. The recent performance on December 15 stood at 1.54%, indicating continued uptrend in IT stocks.

Dr.  Reddy's Laboratories Limited (RDY):

Dr. Reddy's ADR recorded a strong five-year growth of 80.84%, showing substantial progress in the long term.  Over the past year, it witnessed a notable growth of 26.44%, while its recent month-long performance was stable at 0.38%.  December 15 saw a slight increase of 0.06% in performance, which continued despite the slowing trend.

When discussing strong performance, investors generally want doubling of their money within five years as a benchmark.

It is important for investors to consider these diverse growth patterns and their associated risk-return profiles when making investment decisions.
